Ana Abad Santos, Bernardo Bernardo Win Big at 39th Gawad Urian Awards
Theater stalwarts win big at the 39th Gawad Urian Awards!
Red Turnip Theater co-founder Ana Abad Santos bags the coveted award for Best Supporting Actress in the film Apocalypse Child. She was most recently seen in Red Turnip Theater’s Time Stands Still starring opposite Nonie Buencamino, where she was nominated for a Philstage Gawad Buhay Award for Outstanding Female Lead Performance in a Play.
Come March 2017, Santos will be directing The Nether, a serpentine crime drama and haunting sci-fi thriller that explores the consequences of living out our private dreams. The show will star Red Turnip Theater co-founder Jenny Jamora and TJ Trinidad.
Theater veteran Bernardo Bernardo wins Best Supporting Actor for the film Imbisibol. Bernardo was most recently seen in PETA’s Haring Lear, a Tagalog adaptation of Shakespeare’s King Lear.
LJ Reyes, who was nominated for a Philstage Gawad Buhay Award for Outstanding Female Featured Performance in a Play for her role in Tanghalang Pilipino’s Juego de Peligro, wins Best Actress for the film Anino sa Likod ng Buwan.
The awards night was held on June 22 at the Kia Theater.
