‘Ambon’, ‘Ulan’, ‘Baha’ Environmental Musical Opens in Biñan this September
The Biñan Youth Performance Council (YPC) celebrates its 20th anniversary with its first-ever musical, staging Frank G. Rivera’s 49-year-old Ambon, Ulan, Baha.
Billed as a Sarswelang Pinoy, Ambon, Ulan, Baha tells the story of Nonoy and Inday as they navigate love, community struggles, and the challenges brought by environmental neglect. Written by Rivera—who provided both the book and music—decades before “climate change” became a familiar term, the show encourages reflection on our shared responsibility to care for the earth and each other.
The cast features Euden Patrick Moje, Kristel Bianca Calatin, Rijs Dale Noguera, John Paul De Paz, Brix Bartolome, Wilfredo Alipala, Lester Casalla, Danica Samson, Jury Sanchez, Rinoa Caracas, Joy Orzo, Marlou Navia, Oneal Sanchez, Jenver Mallete, Sheena Gonzales, Addie Lacandazo, Uriel Gomez, and Ronquillo Rubio.
Joining Rivera in the creative team are Leobhel Cueto (director), James Tagle (musical director), Sigrid Carreon (production designer), and Marlou Navia (choreographer).
For YPC, this staging is both a celebration of theater and a meaningful contribution to community dialogue. By reviving this work, YPC hopes to spark conversations on stewardship, resilience, and collective action—using art not only to entertain but also to guide audiences toward a hopeful future.
As YPC enters its third decade, Ambon, Ulan, Baha stands as both a milestone and a message: that Artistang Biñanenses will continue to create, perform, and tell stories that inspire and empower—rain or shine.
Ambon, Ulan, Baha runs from September 19 to 21 and 26 to 28 at 8:00 PM at the Sentrong Pangkultura ng Biñan. Admission is free, with a pay-what-you-can policy.
Established on August 7, 2005, the YPC is the official theater group of the City of Biñan. The company continues to nurture and develop local talent through its productions. It also provides young people with opportunities to discover themselves, express their thoughts, enhance cultural consciousness, and strengthen their connections with the community. The company’s founding artistic director is BJ Borja.
