‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by Repertory Philippines Full Cast Announced

Repertory Philippines (REP) has announced the full cast of its upcoming production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, running for three weekends from September 12 to 27 at Saint Cecilia’s Hall in St. Scholastica’s College, Manila.

Directed by REP Artistic Director Jeremy Domingo, the production marks the company’s return to Shakespeare after nearly two decades. REP last staged Shakespeare with Hamlet in 2008.

“Shakespeare has been such a significant part of REP’s 60-year history. It is about time that we revisited the Bard’s masterpieces, especially as our Artistic Director is known for his love for Shakespeare,” says REP President and CEO Mindy Perez-Rubio. “We are all excited to approach a milestone year with one of the world’s finest works of drama that puts the playwright’s inventiveness in the spotlight.”

Domingo describes the production as a faithful adaptation that focuses on Shakespeare’s original text and themes.

“We want to celebrate the power of Shakespeare’s dialogues, which of course defined modern theater as we know it today,” says Domingo. “It’s a faithful adaptation in a sense that my goal as a director is to guide these talented actors in reading, interpreting, and acting Shakespeare text to bring out the wit, the double entendres, and the sarcasm that made the Bard a pillar of English language and the art of theater-making, even four hundred years after he graced this earth.”

Leading the cast is Randy Villarama as Oberon, King of the Fairies, and Theseus, Duke of Athens. Lesley Leveriza Lina and Giannina Ocampo-Van Hoven alternate as Titania, Queen of the Fairies, and Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons and Theseus’ fiancée.

The four young Athenian lovers are played by Dani Roque and Isabelle Prado, alternating as Helena; Sevee Eslabra as Hermia; Luis Marcelo as Lysander; and GK Diola as Demetrius.

Joining them are Joey Cosio-Mercado as Puck and Philostrate, and Joel Parcon as Egeus, Hermia’s father.

The Mechanicals are Tristan Bite as Nick Bottom, Alexa P. Sandiego as Peter Quince, Rico del Rosario as Francis Flute, Ysh Bautista as Robin Starveling, Robert Bradly Hao as Tom Snout, and Bella Alejandro as Snug.

Alejandro also doubles as Peaseblossom, joining Dana Lee as Cobweb, Rosea Ansay as Moth, and Lorrie Figueroa as Mustardseed among the Fairies.

Joining Domingo on the creative team are Andie Villegas (assistant director), Jay Pangilinan (musical director), Jomelle Era (choreographer), Ohm David (set designer), Meliton Roxas (lighting designer), and Carlos Siongco (costume designer).

A Midsummer Night’s Dream runs from September 12 to 27 at Saint Cecilia’s Hall in St. Scholastica’s College, Manila.

Tickets are priced at ₱1,545 (Orchestra Center), ₱1,030 (Orchestra Sides), and ₱824 (Balcony) and are available through Ticket2Me and TicketWorld. For inquiries, contact Repertory Philippines at 0966-9054013 or 0962-6918540, or email [email protected] or [email protected].
