
‘Ulupong’ Play About Climate Change and Injustice to be Staged in Sorsogon this December
A new play exploring climate change and climate injustice is set to premiere in Sorsogon this December.
Ulupong, the latest work by Bicol-based theater company Tabsing Kolektib, follows a seasoned journalist gripped by fear after learning that they may be sent to Siargao to cover an incoming super typhoon. The assignment reawakens their trauma from Tacloban, where they once covered the stories of Yolanda survivors. Now, amid an approaching storm and alongside a rookie reporter, they must once again find the strength to fulfill her duty and confront the ghosts of their past.
The cast features Drew Espenocilla (who also serves as video projection designer), Ivon Abarnas, Tatin Pelenia, and Makre Gepiga. The play is written and directed by Eljay Castro Deldoc.
Ulupong will run on December 4 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.; December 5 at 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m.; December 6 to 7 at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m.; and December 8 to 9 at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Federico Hall (Presidencia Building) in Bulan, Sorsogon.

Established in 2012 (previously based in UPLB and Manila), Tabsing Kolektib PH’s vision is to be a significant independent theater company which is composed of skilled practitioners committed in promoting theater arts as an essential and sustainable tool to influence societal awareness, holistic growth for the youth, and artistic development among people. Now based in Bulan, Sorsogon, the group aims to take part in the flourishing contemporary theater scene of the Bicol Region.
