This November, Teatro Meron restages Ang Medea, the Filipino-language translation of Medea by Euripides, translated by National Artist for Theater Rolando S. Tinio. The production will run at The Mind Museum Special Exhibition Hall in Bonifacio Global City, directed by Ron Capinding and featuring Miren Alvarez-Fabregas in the title role.

The play follows Medea, a woman who sacrificed her homeland for her husband, Yason—only to face betrayal, exile, and humiliation in a city that treats her as an outsider. One of the most haunting tragedies of ancient Greek theatre, Medea tells the story of a woman of intelligence and fierce emotion who gives up everything for love—only to be betrayed. Her heartbreak turns to vengeance that shocks even the gods.

Director Ron Capinding says, “A classic like Medea delves deeply into the human condition. It helps us go beyond the surface symptoms of corruption, betrayal, power, or feminism—and instead leads us toward a fuller understanding of what drives human behavior.”

He adds, “Through this understanding, we are not merely informed—we are empowered. Classical works encourage discernment. They allow us to deliberate, to reflect, and to arrive at our own convictions about what is right and true.”

Joining Alvarez-Fabregas in the cast are Yan Yuzon and Brian Sy, who alternate as Yason, the man whose betrayal drives the tragedy. Teroy Guzman portrays Kreon, while Katski Flores plays Yaya, Medea’s confidante. Joseph dela Cruz appears as Egeo, Joel Macaventa as Maestro, and Gold Soon and Pickles Leonidas alternate as members of the chorus (Koro).

Ang Medea was first staged under Tanghalang Ateneo in November 2024 under the title Medea, featuring the same cast.

Performances will be held at The Mind Museum Special Exhibition Hall in Bonifacio Global City. Evening shows are scheduled for November 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, and 28 at 8:00 PM. Matinee and evening shows will be staged on November 15 and 22 at 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM, and on November 16 and 23 at 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Tickets are P2,000, which are available via Ticket2Me.

Teatro Meron is a new theater collective with a clear yet urgent mission: to entertain and educate, to spark dialogue, and to cultivate discernment through timeless works and great books—the kind that stay with you long after the curtain falls.
