Repertory Philippines’ Peter and the Wolf—the first half of a twin bill with Ballet Philippines, paired with Little Red Riding Hood—has just announced the five guest narrators for its limited run: Maria Ressa, Karylle, Akiko Thomson-Guevara, Liza Chan-Parpan, and Tim Yap. Live orchestral music will accompany the entire production, performed by the Manila Symphony Orchestra.
Here’s when each guest narrator will take the stage:
August 1, 8 PM – Nobel Peace Prize–winning journalist and Rappler co-founder and CEO Maria Ressa
August 2, 2 PM – Three-time Olympian and SEA Games multi-gold medalist Akiko Thomson-Guevara
August 2, 7 PM – Singer and daughter of Jose Mari Chan, Liza Chan-Parpan
August 3, 2 PM – Singer, actress, and television host Karylle
August 3, 7 PM – Media personality, events host, and cultural entrepreneur Tim Yap
The musical tale by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev features a mix of theater actors and ballet dancers. Six performers will portray the human characters—Raja Miclat-Janssen (in his stage debut) as Peter, four hunters, and the grandfather—while Ballet Philippines dancers will take on the roles of the principal animals: the wolf, duck, bird, and cat. An ensemble of six to eight core dancers will complete the cast.
Each character in the piece is represented by a distinct instrument: the bird by a flute, the duck by an oboe, the cat by a clarinet, the grandfather by a bassoon, the wolf by horns, and Peter by the strings.
