Virgin Labfest 2025 Extends for One Night Only
The 20th edition of the Virgin Labfest will be extending for one night only on July 24 at 8 PM, at the CCP Tanghalang Ignacio B. Gimenez.
Dubbed VLF XX: Extended, the one-night-only performance will feature selected plays from its recently concluded 20th edition, VLF XX: Hinog—Minating ni Mariah ang Manto ng Mommy ni Mama Mary by Eljay Deldoc, Presidential Suite #2 by Siege Malvar, and Don’t Meow for Me, Catriona by Ryan Machado.
In Deldoc’s one-act play, a former con artist named Mariah repents his sins by joining the annual Lenten Exhibit. However, things take a turn when he is accused of stealing the antique veil of St. Mary Magdalene. The play features performances by Lian Silverio as Mariah, Mosang as Monang, Esteban Mara as Mentong, George de Jesus III as Mijares, and Roobak Valle as Mijares. It is directed by Dexter M. Santos.
In his VLF debut, Malvar presents a darkly comedic glimpse into the Philippine political landscape. When Senator Zaragoza falls into a coma after being accused of money laundering during a Senate hearing, her children step into the spotlight—eager to keep the family’s political legacy (and scandals) alive. The play features performances by Andoy Ranay as Constantino, Kiki Baento as Gertrude, MC Dela Cruz as Richie, Ariel Diccion as Andy, Charm Aranton as the Doctor, and Clottie Gealogo-Lucero as Wilma. It is directed by Johnnie Moran.
A daughter finally pursues her dreams in Machado’s play. While waiting for the bus with her mother, she reflects on the complex familial love that binds and breaks families. For the extended run, Manok Nellas steps into the role originally played by Angelica Panganiban. Returning is Peewee O’Hara as Reting. The play is directed by Toni Go-Yadao.
