Spot On Cabaret Features Next-Gen Theater Talents this April
Spot On! A Cabaret—a bi-monthly series created by theater artist Sweet Plantado Tiongson to spotlight local theater talents—returns for its fourth edition this April with Who Are These Divas, a one-night-only event happening on April 24, 8 PM at District One Gastrolounge, BGC.
This month’s cabaret features five young performers who began their musical theater journeys as children and are now stepping into adulthood: Gabo Tiongson, Felicity Kyle Napuli, Katie Bradshaw, Albert Silos, and Ericka Peralejo. The show is co-directed by Gabo Tiongson and Sweet Plantado Tiongson, with GJ Frias as musical director.
“I’m featuring five theater actors who began their careers as children—most of them were also my students,” shares Plantado Tiongson. “They’ve stayed good friends through the years. For this cabaret, I asked my son, Gabo, to take the lead in directing and casting. They collaborated closely and came up with the concept together.”
The evening is structured in two acts:
Act I is a reflective look at their pre-pandemic beginnings, revisiting the hopeful energy of 2019 when they were auditioning for musicals—just before the world paused. The setlist features songs that explore themes of growing up in the theater, identity, and isolation, including “Not My Father’s Son” (Kinky Boots), “Breathe” (In The Heights), “Therapy” (Tick, Tick… Boom!) and “Out There” (The Hunchback of Notre Dame).
Act II moves into the present, capturing how they’ve grown through the pandemic and into their adult selves. It features dream roles and personal favorites—“Brand New You” (13 The Musical), “Gawin Mo Akong Sining” and “Ako ang Tunay na Birhen” (Isang Himala), “Matatapos Din” (Mula sa Buwan), “His Kiss, the Riot” (Hadestown), and “Telephone Wire” (Fun Home), to name a few.
Tickets are P850, which are available via Ticket2Me.
