‘Florante at Laura’ Full-Length Ballet Set to Rerun this November
Ballet Manila’s full-length adaptation of Florante at Laura, which ran from October 12 to 13 at the Aliw Theater, is set to return to the stage—this time at the Hyundai Hall, Areté, Ateneo de Manila University—from November 22 to 24.
The ballet production, helmed by Ballet Manila’s CEO and Artistic Director Lisa Macuja Elizalde, features original music and orchestrations by National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab, with choreography by Gerardo Francisco and Martin Lawrance. Balagtas and Balagtasan scholar and poet Dr. Michael Coroza serves as the libretto consultant.
The creative team also includes Mio Infante (set design), Make It Happen, led by Otto Hernandez and Therese Arroyo Hernandez (costume design), and John Batalla (lighting design). Florante at Laura is accompanied by the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth under the baton of Maestro Toma Cayabyab.
The cast features Joshua Enciso as Florante, Abigail Oliveiro as Laura, Noah Esplana as Aladin, Stephanie Santiago as Flerida, Mark Sumaylo as Sultan Ali Adab, and Anselmo Dictado as Menandro.
Joining them are John Ralp Balagot, Rafael Perez, Jos David Andes, Jos Daniel Andes, Rodney Catubay, John Stanley Alamer, and Juan Angelo De Leon as the Albanian male soldiers, along with Jasmine Pia Dames, Shaira May Comeros, Shamira Drapete, and Jessa Balote as the Albanian female soldiers.
Florante at Laura will run on November 22 at 6 PM, November 23 at 7:30 PM, and November 24 at 3:30 PM. Tickets will be available through Ticketworld soon.
