‘I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change’ Full Cast Announced
Repertory Philippines has announced the full cast for its upcoming staging of the Off-Broadway musical, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, its second production for its 87th season.
With book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and music by Jimmy Brooks, the musical presents a series of hilarious yet achingly familiar vignettes on connection and intimacy, commitment and loneliness. Premiering at the Westside Theatre in 1996, this 2024 staging is set in a bustling metropolis where swiping left or right is the norm—touching on things like chasing that invisible string in this era of situationships, and ghosting, and reigniting that spark despite all the distractions.
The cast features Gian Magdangal, Gabby Padilla, Krystal Kane, and Marvin Ong playing a total of 40 characters among them, with Barbara Jance and Davy Narciso serving as swings. The show is directed by Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo.
Magdangal was last seen playing Adult Hector in the 2023 run of Full House Theater Company’s Ang Huling El Bimbo and as Billy Bigelow for REP’s Carousel in 2022. Padilla was last seen in CAST PH‘s staged reading series in 2023 and in the streaming production of CAST PH’s Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons in 2021.
Kane was most recently seen playing Jerry Ricafort in the 2020 run of Tabing Ilog, The Musical and Wendla Bergmann in Ateneo blueREP’s 2019 staging of Spring Awakening. Ong makes his big comeback to the stage, having started his career in musical theater by playing Toby in REP’s Sweeney Todd in 2009 and Rolf in Resorts World Manila’s The Sound of Music in 2011.
Joining Lauchengco-Yulo in the creative team are Cara Barredo (Assistant Director), Ejay Yatco (Musical Director), Joey Mendoza (Set and Costume Designer), Hershee Tantiado (Associate Costume Designer), Lawyn Cruz (Associate Set Designer), GA Fallarme (Projector Graphics and Video Designer), Meliton Roxas (Lighting Designer), Stephen Viñas (Choreographer), and Aji Manalo (Sound Designer).
“With I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, we want to give audiences something they can relate to whether they’re a young romantic hit by dating app fatigue or an older couple going through the trials of marriage,” Lauchengco-Yulo explains. “Because regardless of the age or stage in love, we want this show to emphasize that despite all the problems and miscommunications, love endures—with lots of laughs and some wit on the side.”
I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change will run from June 14 to July 6 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza. Tickets will be available for purchase via Ticketworld and Ticket2Me.
