‘West Side Story’, ‘Tick Tick Boom’, Musicals Nominated for Oscars
The 2022 Oscar nominations have just been announced by actor-comedian Leslie Jordan and actor-producer Tracee Ellis Ross via livestream. The 94th Oscars ceremony will be held on March 27, 2022, 8pm ET at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland in Hollywood.
It has been quite a year for movie musicals! The 2021 remake of West Side Story received a whopping 7 nominations, including Ariana DeBose for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Director for Steven Spielberg, and Best Picture. Tick, Tick… Boom! has 2 nominations– Best Actor in a Leading Role for Andrew Garfield and Best Film Editing. The animated film Encanto has 3 nominations, including Best Original Score, Best Animated Feature film, and Best Original Song for Dos Oruguitas. Cyrano was nominated for Best Costume Design.
The Shakespeare film adaptation The Tragedy of Macbeth starring Denzel Washington was nominated for 3 awards– Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Actor in a Leading Role for Washington.
