‘Wicked’ Film to Star Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo
After the most recently announced news that the movie musical is finally set to begin production in June 2022, director Jon M. Chu has announced on Twitter that Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will be playing Elphaba and Glinda respectively.

The film, had previous release dates announced for December 2019, then December 2021. A new release date has yet to be announced.
Early this year, In the Heights director Jon M. Chu has been announced to helm the production, replacing Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot) who was previously announced to direct.
The musical’s creators, Winnie Holzman (book) and Stephen Schwartz (music and lyrics) are penning the script, with Schwartz announcing that the movie will include two new original songs.
The Broadway musical opened on October 30, 2003. It was nominated for 10 Tony Awards and won 3, including Best Actress in a Musical for Idina Menzel.
Touring productions of “Wicked” has been staged twice in Manila, one at the CCP in 2014, and another one at The Theatre at Solaire in 2017.
