‘Hadestown’ Book Released Today

A book on the Broadway musical Hadestown has officially been released today. Entitled Working on a Song: The Lyrics of Hadestown, the book features lyrics and stories from the production, authored by writer (book and lyrics) and composer of the Tony Award-winning musical, Anaïs Mitchell, with a foreword by Steve Earle.

Mitchell takes readers inside her 12-year process of building the musical from the ground up—detailing her inspiration, breaking down the lyrics, and opening up the process of creation that gave birth to Hadestown.

A special ticketed online book launch with Mitchell and actor Patrick Page is happening on October 8, 7-8AM PST (10pm-11pm Philippine time). Each book ticket includes one copy of Working on a Song and a single-use login for the virtual event. The first 150 orders will include a signed bookplate.Hadestown was nominated for 13 Tony Awards and won 8 including Best Musical and Best Original Score for Mitchell in 2019.
