‘The Boys in the Band’ Streams on Netflix This Month
The Broadway revival cast of the Mart Crowley play The Boys in the Band reunite for the production’s movie adaptation.
The story follows seven gay friends at a birthday party in 1968 New York, where a surprise guest and a drunken game leave them reckoning with unspoken feelings and buried truths. The cast features Jim Parsons as Michael, Andrew Rannells as Larry, Matt Bomer as Donald, Zachary Quinto as Harold, Tuc Watkins as Hank, Michael Benjamin Washington as Bernard, and Robin de Jesús as Emory.
The Broadway production opened on May 31, 2018 and ran until August 11 of the same year for a limited 15-week engagement. De Jesús was nominated for Best Featured Actor in a Play and the show won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play in 2019. The opening date commemorated the play’s 50th anniversary since it originally premiered Off-Broadway on April 14, 1968 and closed on September 6, 1970.
The film is directed by Joe Mantello and produced by Ryan Murphy. The Boys in the Band will be released on Netflix on September 30. You can watch the official trailer below.
