Indeed, here comes a lion.

Disney Studios announced another partnership with Jungle Book director, Jon Favreau for a live action remake of The Lion King.

In his Instagram account, Jon Favreau posted the iconic image of the lion king, Mufasa atop the rock formation, with the caption “Excited for my next project.”

Disney likewise confirms the project in a press release. “We can officially confirm that The Walt Disney Studios and director Jon Favreau are putting a new re-imagining of The Lion King on the fast track to production.

The Lion King is the latest Disney animated film to be made into live action, following the success of Maleficent, Cinderella, Jungle Book, and the upcoming Emma Watson starrer, Beauty and the Beast.

In its opening in 1994, The Lion King earned $968.8 million all over the world, $422.8 million of which is from US alone, making it one of the studio’s most successful films.

The Lion King, which tells the story of a young cub who lost his father at the hands (claws) of a nefarious uncle, and how he was able to reclaim the throne.

The Lion King is also a successful Broadway musical that began in 1997, and is Broadway’s third longest-running show in history.

Aside from The Lion King, Favreau is also working on a sequel to the hit “Jungle Book.”

No release date has been set yet — but hakuna matata; we will keep you posted.
