4 One-Act Plays About Societal Mysteries in ‘Kwentuhog: Shookt!’ this August
Act Avenue returns with Kwentuhog: Shookt!, featuring four one-act plays about societal “mysteries” such as supernatural appearances, rape, perpetrator’s trauma, murder, and dating. The group’s vision is to unravel and expose these stories hoping to provide moral lessons instead of simply providing shock value.
The four plays include Bahay ni Maria, written by Joey Paras, Hatol, written by Elijah Llevares, Aparisyon, written and directed by Rheymel Lunes, and I’m through with Love!, written by Abegail Eugenio.
Bahay ni Maria
Set in an orphanage, the story centers on ten-year-old Mimay, who talks to her imaginary friend Dory, drawn on the wall. Sixteen-year-old Tony is about to leave after being adopted, leaving Mimay feeling scared and abandoned. Tensions rise when something bad happens, forcing everyone to confront the difficult truths of their lives. The play explores themes of abuse, abandonment, and the need for love and care in a harsh environment.
