Areté and Scene Change is set to stage a limited 10-show run of Guelan Varela-Luarca’s 3 Upuan this February.

Written and directed by Guelan Varela-Luarca, 3 Upuan is a play about time and grief that follows the story of three siblings who are brought together and torn apart by death. The original production of 3 Upuan was held in a dressing room of Areté, the creativity and innovation hub of Ateneo de Manila University, in 2024. The show returns to Areté—but this time in the Joselito & Olivia Campos Teaching Laboratory at the JJ Atencio Innovation Link.

The intimate staging will feature only three chairs and three actors—Jojit Lorenzo as Jers, JC Santos as Jack, and Martha Comia as Jai—all of whom reprise their roles from the original run. They also serve as the show’s producers under a newly formed theater company, Scene Change, alongside Luarca, lighting designer and technical director D Cortezano, and film and theater writer-director-producer Giancarlo Abrahan.

This production will be selling only 60 tickets for every show.  “We’re still keeping the shows very intimate with super limited seating,” said Luarca.

Luarca as director heads the creative team, which includes Monty Uy (stage management),  Teia Contreras (assistant direction and video projection), Anyah Katriel Garcia (movement),  D Cortezano (lights), Julia Vaila (production management and sound), and Nyssa Bianzon (technical direction).

The show will run from February 1 to 13 with the following schedule:

Feb 1, 3 p.m. | 8 p.m.
Feb 4, 8 p.m.
Feb 6, 8 p.m.
Feb 8, 3 p.m. | 8 p.m.
Feb 9, 3 p.m. | 8p.m.
Feb 11, 8 p.m.
