‘1 Gay Show’ Moves to Makati for September Run

1 Gay Show is set to move outside Quezon City for the first time with 1 Gay Show sa Sulok, running on September 18 and 19 at Sulok Bar in Poblacion, Makati.

Previously staged three times in Quezon City, including runs in neighborhood bars and makeshift theater spaces in university conference rooms, the three-part monologue will now be performed in partnership with Sulok Bar. Johann Dale Reyes returns as the show’s sole performer.

The production brings together three works written and directed by Gio Potes, PB Maraña, and Jasper Villasis, exploring queer experiences through stories of resistance, sexuality, labor, love, and survival. The Makati venue recontextualizes the events within the immersive play, with the outside noise and complications of a different city bringing other realities of queer life into the production.

Sa Labas ng Parlor, written by Potes and directed by Villasis, is adapted from Honorio Bartolome De Dios’ short story Giyera. The interactive monologue explores courage and beauty amid corrupt systems and violent governance, as well as the resistance waged by queer heroes, while incorporating a makeover from its parlor-gay protagonist.

GRWM, written by Maraña and directed by Potes, follows Wendell, a gay man with body dysmorphia who is invited to collaborate with OnlyFans model Ryan Bembang, his boyfriend’s favorite account. A contractual worker short on money and love, Wendell prepares for their OnlyFans livestream and finds himself developing a new relationship with sex.

Deliberi, written by Villasis and directed by Maraña, centers on a delivery rider whose motorcycle breaks down. As he waits, he talks about his low wages, the dangers of his job, rising prices, politics and culture, his love for his child, and what it means to live with dignity as a worker providing “extra services” amid an ongoing urban crisis.

Also part of the production team are Phoebe Lina, Odds Odds, Karlo Erfe, Emman Degocena, and Clara Senga, who serve in various roles behind the scenes.

Performances are scheduled for September 18 and 19 at 8:30 PM at Sulok Bar, V402, Vine Building, Poblacion, Makati. A 1 Gay Afterparty will follow the September 19 performance at 11 PM.

Regular tickets are priced at ₱700, with early-bird tickets available for ₱500 until September 5. The production is rated 18+. Tickets are available through the group’s Google Form.
