“Tick, Tick… Boom!” Headed to Netflix?
A film adaptation of Jonathan Larson’s musical “Tick, Tick… Boom!” has been in talks as early as last year.
According to Variety, Netflix has finally won the bidding war. It walks away with the rights to the musical adaptation to be directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Steven Levenson, the book writer of “Dear Evan Hansen”, will be writing the screen adaptation. The media company also says that Andrew Garfield is in talks to star in the film.
“Tick, tick… BOOM!” is an autobiographical musical by the late Jonathan Larson, the Tony Award–winning composer of Rent. It is the story of an aspiring composer who questions his life choices on the eve of his thirtieth birthday. Miranda starred in an Off-Broadway production of the musical himself, together with fellow Tony Award winners Leslie Odom, Jr. and Karen Olivo in 2014.
Levenson and Julie Larson will be serving as executive producers. Miranda will be producing the project together with Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Julie Oh of Imagine Entertainment.
