Summer Lovin’: “Grease” on Full Heat

From the same network that brought us Glee, comes a one-night musical production of one of pop culture’s most successful musicals, “Grease.”

Grease: Live! stars up-and-coming dancer-turned-actress Julianne Hough as Sandy, the ingenue newcomer of Rydell High. Taking in the role of Danny Zuko, is Broadway actor Aaron Tveit. Vanessa Hudgens, Keke Palmer, Carlos Pena Jr, and singer Carly Rae Jepsen complete the cast as Rizzo, Marty Maraschino, Kenickie and Frenchy respectively.

The production is based on the original 1971 musical, “Grease,” by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. It has perhaps won a more international recognition after its 1978 Paramount Pictures feature adaptation that starred heartthrobs John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. This time, Paramount Television hopes to bring in the same magic as they produce Grease: Live! for TV audiences. They are bringing in a talented group of crew members, with Wicked and Into the Woods producer Marc Platt to executive produce the show; Thomas Kail and Alex Rudzinski to stage and live TV direct, respectively; and Robert Cary and Jonathan Tolins to write the TV adaptation.
