Looking for a film with a strong advocacy as its backbone? You’re in luck!
Ang Higanteng Haligi sa Hilaga is an interactive play-turned-film by Eljay Castro Deldoc. It follows the story of Mameng, a teenage forest dweller in Sierra Madre, and Jade, a city yuppie as they try to save an old Kamagong tree against various forces that try to cut it down.
Originally staged in 2018 at Miriam College, the interactive play was intended for a tour last year. Due to the pandemic, it was turned into a film instead–and one you can watch right now online for free!
Made possible by a grant from Forest Foundation Philippines, the film features Jean Vicente, Bianca Meer, Drew Espenocilla, Joe Garcia, Paw Castillo, Joshua Bajado, Christian Abla Bautista, and Aira Jean Dela Cruz.
Eljay Castro Deldoc, along with writing the play, also served as director for this film along with Marvin Caro who is also Director of Photography with Harold Frejas. Production design is by Marco Viaña, choreography is by Cyril Balderama, music and sound design is by MJ Guintu Balingit, and compositions are by Jude Matthew Servilla.
