The film adaptation of the West End musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie will be streaming on Amazon Prime Video on September 17, 2021 in over 240 countries and territories, according to Variety.

The release of the film has been postponed from October 23, 2020, when it was initially set to be distributed by 20th Century Fox. Amazon has acquired the rights during the pandemic.

The story follows Jamie New, a 16-year old who dreams of becoming a drag queen. The creative team from the stage musical of the same name is coming back together for the film– book writer and lyricist Tom MacRae returns to write the screenplay, composer Dan Gillespie Sells returns to write the music, and stage director Jonathan Butterell returns to direct. It will be Butterell’s feature directorial debut.

The stage musical opened in the West End in 2017 and was nominated for 5 Olivier Awards in 2018 including Best New Musical. The original West End cast features John McCrea as Jamie New, Josie Walker as Margaret New, Phil Nichol as Hugo Battersby / Loco Chanelle, Mina Anwar as Ray, and Lucie Shorthouse as Pritti Pasha.
