‘Crisostomo Ibarra’ by Ballet Philippines is Now Streaming Online
Based on Dr. Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere, Ballet Philippines’ production of Crisostomo Ibarra is now streaming online.
Featuring original music by Joed Balsamo and choreography by Paul Alexander Morales, Crisostomo Ibarra premiered in 2010 and highlights the life of an idealist reformer striving to make change in a corrupt and oppressed society. It has since been toured around the Philippines and was also presented internationally in Singapore. An intimate ballet with a small cast, Crisostomo Ibarra was first performed with live music in June 2012, commemorating the close of the Philippines’ yearlong celebration of Jose Rizal’s sesquicentenary.
The show was most recently staged in October 2016 as a twin-bill production with Simoun at the CCP Main Theater, accompanied by the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra. The streaming production features the 2012 production with cast members Jean Marc Cordero as Crisostomo Ibarra, Candice Adea as Maria Clara, Carissa Adea as Sisa, Marvin Arizo as Multo/ Padre Damaso, Timothy Cabrera as Elias/ Komedyante, Janine Arisola as Prinsesa, Gillianne Gequinto as Lady, Christopher Niño Royeca as Kapitan, Edana Labitoria as Doña Consolacion, Karmela Gaile Cortez as Victoria, Kazier Policarpio as Padre Salvi/ Padre Sibyla, Emmanuelle Guillermo as Alferez/ Kambal, Rita Angela Winder as Sinang, Anna Margarita Reyes as Doña Victorina, Cyril Fallar as Don Tiburcio/ Komedyante, and Richardson Yadao as Tinyente/ Don Basilio/ Komedyante.
They are accompanied by Marlon Galang (oboe), Adolfo Mendoza (bassoon), Dino Decena (violin), Anjo Inacay (cello), and Joed Balsamo (piano). The creative team for this production also includes Jet Melencio (production design), Roman Cruz (lighting design), Jethro Joaquin (sound design), TJ Ramos (assistant sound design), and Ruelo Lozendo (video).
