WATCH: Ariel in ‘The Little Mermaid’ Live Action Sings in Teaser
We now have our first glimpse of Halle Bailey as star of the upcoming live action remake of The Little Mermaid. In the teaser, we see her in the character’s iconic mermaid look as well as hear her sing a few lines of ‘Part of Your World.’
The live-action remake is Disney’s take on the animated classic of the same name that premiered in 1989, based on the 1837 Danish fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen. It tells the story of a sixteen year old mermaid dissatisfied by her underwater life and longed to be part of the world of people. A storm hits and she encounters a human prince named Eric. Sea Witch Ursula grants Ariel her wish of human feet in exchange for her voice. This spurs Ariel into a land adventure filled with discovery and romance.
Directed by Rob Marshall, it will feature songs from the animated hit (by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken) as well as new songs from Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Along with Bailey, the film also stars Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, Noma Dumezweni, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, and Awkwafina.
The movie is set to premiere in May 2023. Watch the teaser below:
