As previously announced, Atlantis Theatrical’s 20th season in 2019 will begin with Angels in America: Millennium Approaches, the first part of Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize, Tony and Oliver award -winning play. The production will open in March at the Carlos P. Romulo, RCBC Plaza, Makati. It will be followed by Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, which will open in June at the Meralco Theater.

For its final production, the company has just announced that it will be staging the Stephen Sondheim/Hugh Wheeler musical ‘Sweeney Todd.’ The show won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, for its Broadway premiere, as well as the Oliver Award for Best New Musical.

This radically different production of “Sweeney Todd” also celebrates the show’s 40th Anniversary, having opened on Broadway in 1979. It will run in October at the Theatre at Solaire. Casting for each production will be announced soon.

Atlantis has also announced a year-round musical theatre workshop series starting in January, and has created a new division entitled Atlantis Imaginarium Young Theatre (AIYT). AIYT is the company’s new arm for theatre for young audiences and family shows. It will be spearheaded by theater actor-director Steven Conde and theater actress Sarah Facuri.

The company will also be publishing “Atlantis Twenty,” a coffee table book which captures the journey of the company over 20 years, with photos from its various productions and articles by many luminaries of its shows. It will show what it takes to produce theatre, from rehearsals to opening night. It will also be filled with never-before-seen photos, as well as backstage stories from different points of view. The book is targeted to be launched in May.
