Cast: Joel Saracho, Paul Jake Paule, Mickey Canillo, Janno Castillo, Antonette Go

5. October 31: “Brujas” by Carlo Pacolor Garcia

Program Director: Katte Sabate

Synopsis: Brujas is a text loosely based on Isabelo de los Reyes’ El diablo en Filipinas. Ang Diablo sa Filipinas ayon sa nasasabi sa mga casulatan luma sa Kastila was a satirical jab at the superstitions of foreign Catholic religion introduced during Spanish colonial times. In the text, de los Reyes mentions two famous brujas chronicled by the frailes, namely Tapar and Fulangan. Brujas takes these two historic characters and sets them together with two contemporary figurations; the lumpen, or the street dreg as an obvious descendant of the brown indio, in the form of an “every bakla”, India, and a very agitated techno pagan, Sabino. It was Sabino who gathered the coven together, having apparently found a spell online to end the bloodshed in a war-torn city where the play is set.
