Egg Theater Company Debuts with Maniacal, a Satire on Philippine Theater
Produced by the new EGG Theater Company, MANIACAL won for the playwright GEORGE DE JESUS III the 3rd Prize Dulang Ganap ang Haba, 2015 Palanca Awards for Literature.
MANIACAL features topnotch actors Via Antonio, Mayen Cadd, Martha Comia, Nel Gomez, Renante Bustamente, Mara Marasigan, Paolo O’Hara, and Jojo Riguerra.
Directed by GEROGE DE JESUS III, the play is set during a rehearsal of an adaptation of Moliere’s Le Femmes Savant (The Learned Ladies), a comedy on the pretentiousness of intellectuals and the upper class of society. Rita, the young actress playing the ingénue, is having thoughts on quitting the production after getting a callback for a local staging of a Broadway musicale she auditioned for with Andre, the actor playing Clitandre, the romantic lead of The Learned Ladies.
