ON NETFLIX: ‘Christmas on the Square’ Musical Film Now Streaming
Netflix continues to bring more holiday cheer with Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square.
Following the premiere of the musical adventure Jingle Jangle is another musical holiday film featuring an all-star cast and more than a dozen new songs about the festive season.
Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square stars Tony Award winner Christine Baranski (Mamma Mia!) as a modern-day Scrooge named Regina Fuller who threatens to evict everyone in her old hometown so she can sell the land to a mall developer. But as all classic Christmas stories go, a mysterious angel (played by Parton herself) magically appears to help Regina rediscover the true spirit of the season. Will the angel’s intervention help her make peace with the local townsfolk and reconnect with an old love? Will she have a change of heart in time to save Christmas for everyone?
Christmas on the Square also stars Jenifer Lewis (Black-ish, Hairspray), Treat Williams (Hair), Josh Segarra (On Your Feet!), Jeanine Mason (Roswell, New Mexico), Mary Lane Haskell (Heartstrings), Matthew Johnson (American Idol), and Selah Kimbro Jones (Hidden Figures).
Grammy-winning Parton (9 to 5) wrote the music and lyrics for the 14 original songs featured in the film while Tony-nominee Debbie Allen directed and choreographed the numerous lively and colorful dance numbers.
Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square premieres on Netflix today.
