Olivier Awards 2020 Winners Announced

Despite the current state of the world, the theater industry hasn’t stopped celebrating and awarding worthy productions and performances in 2020. Earlier this month, the Tony’s have announced their nominations with broadcast of their awards scheduled sometime this year. The West End, too, have streamed their biggest awards night.

Unlike the Tony’s, the eligibility period for this year’s Olivier Awards were shows that opened between February 20 2019 to February 18 2020. While the number of eligible shows wasn’t affected for this year’s awards, the ceremony, which is usually held during the second quarter of the year, was rescheduled for October 25th.

This year’s ceremony was hosted by Jason Manford, star of musical Curtains. Seven shows received multiple awards this year, namely: & Juliet, Dear Evan Hansen, and Emilia each winning 3 awards and Death of a Salesman, Leopoldstadt, Mary Poppins, and Present Laughter each winning 2 awards. The musical & Juliet also received the most number of nominations this year (9) when it was announced last March.

You can watch the pre-show and the full awards show on the OfficialLondonTheatre channel on YouTube.
