If you’ve always been curious about how Broadway shows run, here’s a documentary that might be of interest—an inside look at the unique and challenging lives of Broadway understudies and standbys.

Understudies have parts in the show and are responsible for one or two lead roles while a standby has no part in the show, but is always ready to step in at a moment’s notice for a lead part if needed.

Directed by Stephanie Riggs, it features stories from Broadway performers Ben Crawford (Les Miserables, Shrek), Merwin Foard (Sweeney Todd, The Addams Family), and Aléna Watters (West Side Story). Also featuring interviews from Bebe Neuwirth, David Hyde Pierce, Zachary Quinto, Sutton Foster, Brian d’Arcy James, Cheyenne Jackson, Jerry Zaks, Nelle Nugent, Michael Riedel, Jim Wilhelm and more.

You can stream it for free right now on Broadway on Demand. It’s also available on Apple TV+
