Teatro 77’s new online production, Pára, is now streaming. The show was inspired by the sentiments of the Filipino people towards the 2022 elections.

The script was built on interviews with Filipinos of different political camps and economic backgrounds. Presented in black and white, thus literally and figuratively stripped of political leanings, the play seeks to portray the characters’ frustration and anxiety through conversations between refugees in a jeepney journey towards an uncertain but hopefully better future.

The official synopsis reads: “Set in Lunan, a group of refugees board a jeep in transit to Silong, a safe zone where civilians can wait out the nearing end of a long, drawn-out civil war. When their journey is stopped in its tracks by both a storm of bullets and a clash of polarizing ideals, they must make hasty decisions that might cost them their lives.”

The show stars Ranz Aganan, Lauren Antonio, Soc Delos Reyes, Dianne Fabros, Gab Tibayan, and Jaja. The production was directed by Gerald Manuel with a script by Manuel, Dominick Molina, Phoebe Louise Lina, and Natalia Malbarosa, production design by Setsuna, and sound design by Erin Lee.

Pára is the fourth in a series of online plays created by Teatro 77, following The Boarding House, Lying Creatures, and LF: New Hire.

Teatro 77 is a production company of Filipino multi-disciplinary theater professionals who work on and off the stage. They envision quirky, innovative theatrical experiences that push the potential of theater.
