Mga Kuwentong Karapat-Dapat, a storytelling collaboration featuring independent artist groups such as Anima Tierra, Daloy Dance Company, and Anino Shadowplay Collective, with performance and direction by Abner Delina Jr., is streaming online for only 48 hours.

The production was filmed from the stage production held at the CCP last November 2019. It was part of the CCP, Center for Art, New Ventures & Sustainable Development (CANVAS) and BLACK CANVAS’ Batang Karapat-Dapat, a mini-festival that centers on the rights of children.

The collaborative performance includes three CANVAS-published stories– Tahan Na Tahanan, Nadia and the Blue Stars and Inang Kalikasan’s Bad Hair Day, told through shadowplay, dance and music.

When asked why he thought that streaming this production is particularly apt for the times, Delina Jr. says that it focuses on things that we have been dealing with since the beginning of the pandemic– the value of home, society, and environment.

This work is about nurturing a safe space for our children -a caring home, a peaceful society and a clean and sustainable environment. These are all basic human rights, not only for children but for everyone. With everything that’s happening in our country and around the world, we wanted to create an experience, a community, a world where children’s voices are counted equally like all other citizens of our society.”

“From political conflicts to economic downfall, from pandemic to disasters, at kung ano pa man siguro ang mangyayari sa mundo, lagi kong binabalikan ang tanong na ‘Paano ang mga bata?’,” he adds. “‘Are we listening to the children?’ Bilang mamamayan, para saan ba itong mundong nililikha natin? Naiisip ba natin ang mga bata?”

He hopes that through our collective imagination, we can bring back our inner child again and relive the magic to dream, to hope, and to do something, together.

“Naisip ko, napaka-suwerte namin na tinuloy namin itong proyekto last year- a time when we could still gather hundreds of kids like a one big family. I hope, by revisiting this performance, layers of truth, love and justice will surface again. Kulang na kulang pa, pero sana may maibahagi ito kahit papaano.”
