“Newsies: The Broadway Musical” Now Streaming on Netflix PH!
“Newsies: The Broadway Musical” is finally available on Netflix.
The filmed version of the musical starring original Broadway cast members Jeremy Jordan, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Kara Lindsay, and Ben Fankhauser came to US cinemas last February 2017 and started streaming on their Netflix service in September of the same year. The musical was shot last September 11, 2016 during a special performance in the production’s national tour in Los Angeles.
The filmed version was also shown at the Globe Iconic Store of the Bonifacio High Street Amphitheater last May 12, 2017 ahead of 9 Works Theatrical and Globe Live’s staging of the musical in July of that same year.
The Broadway musical won Best Choreography and Best Original Score in the 2012 Tony Awards. The music was written by Alan Menken, with lyrics by Jack Feldman and a book by Harvey Fierstein. It is based on the 1992 Disney film about the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City.
