New Musical Anthology from Teatro ni Juan Now Online
With the uncertainty of theaters opening soon, Teatro ni Juan, Marikina’s community theater group, is releasing content from their new musical online.
Entitled BKNW Rising, the online initiative is a 3-part anthology that preludes the musical, currently in development, through early drafts and demos. It adapts the Filipino myth of the Bakunawa, the infamous creature that causes eclipses whenever it tries to devour the moon, to the present day. The music and lyrics are written by Mika Caranza and Carlo Gianan, with book and direction by Mikko Angeles.
The first episode, Tayong Taga-Lupa At Sila, premiered on September 6 during the Super Black Moon. The succeeding episodes will be available on the night of the Blue Moon (Oct 31) and on the upcoming Lunar Eclipse (Nov 30) respectively. All episodes are available on bknwrising.com.
