National Theatre Live Launches Free Streaming of Shows
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, UK’s National Theatre Live has cancelled its live shows until June 30, 2020.
In response to the crisis, the company launches National Theatre at Home, an initiative that will give everyone free access to its content online. A selection of shows will be streamed on YouTube every Thursday.
One Man, Two Guvnors featuring James Corden is the first play that will be available for streaming, from April 2, 7pm (London time) until April 9. The next three titles are Jane Eyre, Treasure Island, and Twelfth Night.
National Theatre Live is an initiative operated by the Royal National Theatre in London, which broadcasts live via satellite, performances of their productions (and from other theatres) to cinemas and arts centres around the world. Its most recent broadcasts include Fleabag starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge, A Midsummer Night’s Dream featuring Gwendoline Christie, Oliver Chris, David Moorst,and Hammed Animashaun, Hansard featuring Lindsay Duncan and Alex Jennings, Present Laughter featuring Andrew Scott, and Cyrano de Bergerac featuring James McAvoy.
Performances that have been cancelled because of the outbreak are The Welkin and Leopoldstadt.
