The 2022 Academy Awards just concluded and two major musicals of 2021 nabbed major awards during the ceremony.

Ariana DeBose made history with her win in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role as Anita in the Steven Spielberg-directed remake of West Side Story. The film itself had seven nominations: Best Director for Spielberg, Best Sound, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design as well as Best Picture.

Disney’s big hit, Encanto, also won Best Animated Feature Film. It was also up for Best Original Score, as well as Best Original Song for “Dos Oruguitas” with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The cast of Encanto also performed the hit song, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” during the awards ceremony.

It was an eventful night, with big wins for Dune, that received 6 wins out of 10 nominations, and CODA, which won all three awards it was nominated for, including Best Picture.
