Juan Ekis and Duende Theatre are set to stream songs from the space adventure musical, Xander: Pulis Pangkalawakan, written by Juan Ekis (lyrics) and Ian Amane (music).

Xander is a musical parody based on the Japanese tokusatsu series Space Sheriff Shaider (宇宙刑事シャイダ). It tells the story of the return of the dreaded Fuschia empire during the time that Space Sheriff Alexis plans to retire and settle down with his partner, Annie.

This livestreamed watch party will feature performances by cast members from its earlier productions– Justin Luis, Jed Lirios, Diandra Concepcion, Draco Moreno, Jesca Canto, Alyana Dalisay, Mil Prado, Amiel Maranan, Joel Parcon, Patty Villacorta, and Cheese Mendez, shot in the safety of their own homes all around the world. The creative team will also be giving commentary in-between the song numbers, which will include Xander, Oh Yeah, Friendzone, Tsugi-Tsugi, Kaya ko ba Maging Bayani, and Pag-ibig ko’y Bulalakaw, among others.

Xander was first staged at the University of Asia and the Pacific under Dulaang ROC in 2015, with a subsequent production in 2016 after undergoing a few rewrites. It was most recently staged in 2019 by Tanghalang Lykeon in the Lyceum of the Philippines, Cavite. This will be the first time songs from the musical will be made available for listening to the general public.

This livestream is part of a series of livestreamed writing workshops that Juan Ekis has been holding weekly on his Facebook page.

You can stream this online watch party via the Juan Ekis Facebook page or the Duende Theatre Facebook page  on June 20, 2020 at 8pm.
