A Broadway musical version of the Oscar-winning film La La Land is currently in development.

The news was announced by Tony Award-winning producer Marc Platt. According to a report on Deadline, the stage version of Damien Chazelle’s 2017 film will be directed by Tony winner Bartlett Sher (South Pacific, To Kill a Mockingbird) based on a book by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar and Matthew Decker. The show will feature music by the film’s composer, Oscar winner Justin Hurwitz and lyrics by Oscar- and Tony-winning composing team Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (The Greatest Showman).

La La Land focuses on an actor (Emma Stone) and a jazz musician (Ryan Gosling) as they pursue their dreams of stardom while falling in and out of love in Los Angeles.

The film won six Oscars out of its 14 nominations: best actress for Stone, best director for Chazelle, best production design, best cinematography, best original score, and best original song, “City of Stars.”

La La Land’s planned Broadway adaptation is the latest in the line of upcoming stage productions based on other films and television series such as Dirty Dancing, Now You See Me, Wonder, and Nashville.
