The American Repertory Theater, which will stage Alanis Morissette’s ‘Jagged Little Pill’ in 2018, has confirmed that Tony winner Idina Menzel will lead the stage reading of the musical.

Idina Menzel

Menzel won a Tony for her masterful turn as Elphaba in ‘Wicked’, and has appeared in other Broadway productions such as ‘Rent’, ‘Aida’, and ‘The Wild Party’, among others. She also provided the voice of Elsa in the Disney movie ‘Frozen’. Her last New York stage appearance was in the original production of ‘If/Then’. She is currently on a world tour in support of her album idina.

However, Playbill.com mentions that she is not expected to appear in the world premiere of the musical in Massachusetts. Menzel is already scheduled to be in the new off-Broadway production of Joshua Harmon’s play ‘Skintight’ by then.

But this can’t keep fans from hoping that Menzel may still be available once ‘Jagged Little Pill’ makes it Broadway debut. The combination of Menzel’s voice and Morrisette’s songs is just too good an idea to let go.
