First Look: Behind the Scenes at Frozen the Musical

Unless you’ve been hiding away in some faraway ice palace for the past year, you know that Disney’s worldwide sensation Frozen is being turned into a Broadway musical.

The musical was announced early last year, while initial principal casting, including Wicked alums Caissie Levy and Patti Murin as Elsa and Anna respectively, was revealed in April of this year.

Disney on Broadway has just released an official trailer for the musical, and while it doesn’t yet give us a glimpse of the actual show, it takes us behind the scenes at one of the rehearsals, and introduces us to the creatives putting the highly-anticipated musical together.

You can watch the video below.

Frozen keeps three major players from the film’s creative team, songwriting duo Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez and screenwriter Jennifer Lee, who will take on writing the musical’s book.

Michael Grandage will be directing the show (taking the reigns from Alex Timbers, who was slated to direct when the show was first announced early last year), with choreography by Rob Ashford, sets and costumes by Christopher Oram, and musical arrangement by Stephen Oremus.

Frozen will begin with a pre-Broadway engagement at Denver’s Buell Theatre later this month, before opening on Broadway at the St. James Theatre in the spring of 2018.
