Excitement is running high for this weekend’s Grammy Awards. Tony-award winning producer Jhett Tolentino is up for a trophy as a producer of the cast album for The Color Purple.

Tolentino is nominated along with fellow producers Stephen Bray, Van Dean, Frank Filipetti, Roy Furman, and Scott Sanders. ‘The Color Purple’ is among the nominees for Best Musical Theater Album. The other nominees in this category are ‘Bright Star’, ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, ‘Kinky Boots’, and ‘Waitress’. As Tolentino mentioned in an interview with CNN Philippines this morning, there’s stiff competition. But this crop of Broadway musicals has done very well in the past season, and to quote Tolentino, “it could go either way”.

Jhett Tolentino already has three Tony Awards under his belt. He won his first Tony in 2013 for producing the play ‘Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike’, which is currently running here in Manila. Tolentino also won Tonys the next year for producing ‘A Raisin in the Sun’ and ‘A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder’. Will he add another trophy to his collection? It’s definitely a good reason to tune in to the Grammys this year.

The 59th Grammy Awards will be held on February 12, 2017, with the Philippine telecast on Feb. 13 (Monday morning) on Star World at 9 a.m., with an encore at 8:30 p.m.
