FEU Theater Guild Opens Season with Anatomiya ng Pag-ibig

The FEU Theater Guild (FTG), one of the most active university-based theater organizations in the country opens its 82nd theater season with “Anatomiya ng Pag-ibig”, written by Palanca award-winner Allan Lopez. This production is directed by PETA Senior and FTG Artistic Director, Dudz Terana whose works include his original script, “Usapang X”, Dominique La Victoria’s “Ang Bata sa Drum”, and Risa Jopson’s adaptation of Gabriel Garcia-Marquez’s “Makikitawag Lang Ako” to name a few.

For the 2016-2017 theater season the FTG productions will focus on the theater of the absurd, surrealism, fantasy, and make-believe. Expect a crazier, wilder, and bolder FTG which will leave the audience at the edge of their seats with the members of the organization showcasing the results of the professional theater acting, directing, and production workshops they undertook in the past years.

Anatomiya ng Pag-ibig

Synopsis

“Anatomiya ng Pag-ibig” is made up of different wild, uncommon and eccentric stories of love and romance told from a variety of perspectives. Witness Julia’s thirst to kill for passion, Ding’s love-hate relationship with his past, Rudy and Divino’s dark and hilarious conversation inside the car of a stranger and how the blind lady sees her way through without actually seeing, among others. The stories in each scene may seem disjointed but are linked by the concept of a single heart beating for a thousand reasons. All these characters experience love beyond the usual pure and feel-good connotations: lustful, hurtful, abusive and selfish which then cloud their minds with chaotic thoughts leading to affairs, break-ups, vengeance and suicide. In the end, their hearts beat differently, if at all. “Iba’t-ibang pag-ibig, iisa ang anatomiya.”

The scenes are balanced between reality and symbolism, just the right combination to make the audience leave in confusion but still wanting more. This R18 play is definitely not for the weak-hearted as it is designed to disturb one’s inner senses with a careful mix of choreography, cursing, violence, and nudity. The production is staged in a theater-in-the-round style, an imposed challenge to the cast and the director for the audience sits on all sides. Every nuance, facial expression, non-verbal cue, and movement of the actors is visible to the spectators, with the intention of leaving them disturbed.
