The Sandbox Collective is bringing back its staging of Duncan Macmillan’s one-woman show, Every Brilliant Thing, and two-hander, Lungs, on June 2-25, 2023 at the Zobel de Ayala Recital Hall of the Maybank Performing Arts Theater in BGC. Both runs were cut short last March 2020 due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

The company has previously staged Every Brilliant Thing from February 2 to March 17, 2019 and in 2020 before the show was halted by the pandemic at the same venue, where Teresa Herrera and Kakki Teodoro alternated for the starring role. No word yet whether they will be reprising their roles for the upcoming run.

The story is told through the perspective of an individual who faces her mother’s depression. She begins to write a list of things that make life worth living, such as ice cream and being allowed to watch TV.

Lungs, on the other hand, prior to the halted 2020 run, was last staged by the company from September 22 to October 7, 2018 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight of Circuit Makati. The one-act play starred Jake Cuenca (his theatrical debut at the time), who alternated with Gabs Santos, and Sab Jose. No word yet whether they will be reprising their roles for the upcoming run.

The story follows a couple who engages with questions about babies, love, sex, betrayal, and change in one unbroken conversation that spans decades.

This time around, audiences get to experience both shows as a twin bill experience, which means that since both shows are one-act plays, Lungs will serve as Act 1, and Every Brilliant Thing will serve as Act 2.

Ticketing details will be announced soon.
