Allegiance is inspired by the life of lead actor George Takei during the time of the Japanese American internment of World War II. The musical also stars Glee star Telly Leung.

“Despite the topicality, ‘Allegiance’ received so-so reviews and consistently struggled at the Broadway box office; it will close at a loss to its investors. The show premiered at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego in 2012; the producers said they planned to schedule a national tour and international productions.”

The musical opened on Broadway last November 8.
