The nominations for the 2017 Tony Awards were announced today, and there were some surprises in the list. As expected, ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ was nominated for Best Musical, with Oscar winners and show creators Benj Pasek and Justin Paul also garnering a nod for Best Original Score.

But it was ‘Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812’ that led the field with 12 nominations in total, including one for Best Musical and one for Best Actor in a Musical for its leading man, Josh Groban.

The revival of ‘Hello Dolly’ received the second highest number of nominations with 10, including Best Revival of a Musical and nods for its leads Bette Midler and David Hyde Pierce as well as featured players Gavin Creel and Kate Baldwin.
